Press upbeat about avionics activities in Bordeaux

Feb 26. 2013

Articles recently published by French regional daily Sud Ouest and weekly magazine L’Usine Nouvelle report on the activities at the Thales Avionics facility in Bordeaux, which is “boosted by the rude health of the aeronautics sector and new contracts signed by the Group with customers including ATR and Airbus”.

The Sud Ouest feature outlines “the central role played by the Bordeaux plant in the development and production of cockpit display systems that enable pilots to access the wide range of information they need. In this field, Thales boasts an enviable track record”. Writer Bernard Broustet also notes that the site “is not short on work. Teams are working on the retrofit of around 50 Indian Mirage 2000s, ahead of New Delhi finalising an order for 126 Rafales, which would have a major impact on the site’s activity. The modernisation of British Forces’ Boeing Chinook helicopters is also currently on the agenda.”

The Usine Nouvelle piece, written by Nicolas César, refers to the facility’s plans to recruit “30 people this year, particularly engineers. Last year 60 people were hired. What is more, the site has created a new 600-square-metre workspace known as the Innovation Hub, given over to innovation and the fostering of new technologies.”
