Jun 21. 2013

Silkair (SLK) has selected Thales Avionics BFE (Buyer Furnished Equipment) package for their 23 Boeing 737NG consisting of TCAS (Traffic alert and Collision Avoidance System) and associated Mode S Transponders, LRRA (Low Range Radio Altimeter), SATCOM, Survival ELT AS and L3-COM Recorders.

The Thales/ACSS Surveillance System includes the Traffic Collision Avoidance system TCAS3000SP and associated the Mode S Transponder. The TCAS3000SP is compliant with the Change 7.1 mandate and will support future ADS-B IN applications. The Mode S Transponder is ready to support the DO-260B requirement. The Thales Low Range Radio Altimeter (LRRA) is a proven radio-transceiver with a measured reliability higher than 50,000 flight hour mean time between failures. The state of the art ARINC 781 Swift Broadband TopFlight SATCOM offers a [cockpit + cabin] capable means of satellite communication using the latest Inmarsat-4 constellation. This single 6-MCU line replaceable unit perfectly suits the Narrow body single aisle Boeing market with immediate savings in weight, size and power while providing the highest service available today in such configuration. With more than 50,000 distress beacons sold to the aviation market, Thales and its partner Orolia will equip SLK’s B737NG aircraft with their portable emergency locator-transmitter (ELT 406AS), which is part of the well-known Kannad product line. The 23 Silkair aircraft will also be fitted with the L3-COM Solid State Flight Data Recorder (SSFDR) and Solid State Cockpit Voice Recorder (SSCVR). “Thales Avionics is very excited about SLK’s decision to select Thales Avionics onboard their Boeing 737NG aircraft. This selection confirms the fact that Thales is a major Avionics supplier in the Air Transport world recognized in all parts of the world” says Wee Boon Chong, Vice President and General Manager of Thales Avionics Services Worldwide for Asia. “Thales Avionics excellence in customer service through its product support organization continues to reflect on our ability to grow the business thanks to the trust of our customers”, Wee adds. “We look forward to the operational and technology benefits that THALES Avionics can offer on our new Boeing fleet.” said Mr Martin Leong, Head of Engineering for SilkAir.
