Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Cloud, Kubernetes, Microservices, APIs … These are only a few of the many technological advances that have emerged over the past decade and that could significantly benefit Air Traffic Management (ATM). Yet introducing new technologies in a world where safety is the primary concern is complex and often results in long lead times. In partnering to establish the AIR Lab, Thales and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) have sought to create an innovative research environment exploring the integration of new technologies in legacy ATM systems. Through the development of an open architecture platform, they are facilitating research for tomorrow’s ATM.
