Thales demonstrates new generation IFE control technologies

Feb 01. 2013

Thales showcased its Hand Gesture Control system on the Contour seats during the fourth edition of Aircraft Interiors Middle East and fifth edition of Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul shows that took place in Dubai, UAE, January 22 to 23.

Gesture Control is a new enhancement to the passenger user experience in a far-reach airline seat configuration (or pod seat) involving the use of Hand Gesture technologies to control the IFE system’s display.

The in-flight entertainment system is controlled using hand motions. Through such human behaviors, passengers can navigate through the seat display menu options and select their entertainment and information preferences. The hand gesture feature offers passengers a highly user-friendly and natural way to engage with their in-flight entertainment.

The combined shows drew 226 exhibitors and saw HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai Airports, and Chairman & Chief Executive of Emirates Airline & Group touring the exhibition halls.
