Spirit Airlines Passengers Enjoy Fast Wi-Fi in the Sky Enabled by High-Powered SES-17 Satellite
Thales’ FlytLIVE service powered by the SES-17 satellite is closing the inflight connectivity gap.
Thales is among the exhibitors in Hamburg, Germany, from April 9th to 11th at this year’s Aircraft Interiors, the world’s largest event dedicated to the aircraft interiors industry.
The theme of Thales’s presence this year is “You are there”, underscoring the rich capabilities and captivating experience offered by the latest-generation TopSeries AVANT® inflight entertainment and connectivity system.
The system, which has already been selected by airlines for their most advanced aircraft platforms (B737, B777, B787, A330, A350 XWB and A380), is highly flexible and at Aircraft Interiors, Thales is demonstrating the full family of solutions, from the top-of-the-line TopSeries AVANT® system that incorporates the award-winning TouchPMU (Passenger Media Unit) to the TopSeries AVANT® Overhead solution, aimed at low-cost single-aisle operators. Also on show is TopSeries AVA, a turnkey wireless streaming media solution currently undergoing trials with LAN Airlines, and TopSeries AVANT® lite, a feature-rich system geared toward legacy carriers.
Innovative enhancements to the passenger experience, with the incorporation of advanced capabilities such as personalization and mobile applications, are also being demonstrated by means of “You Are The Connection”, which shows a home-to-hotel experience that supports customer relationship management (CRM).
One of the highlights of the Thales presence is the “Immersive Seat” display, featuring hands-free applications that rely on eye motion (eye tracking) and hand motion (gesture control) technologies. In recognition of advances in this field, Thales has been shortlisted among the finalists in the “Passenger Comfort Systems” category at the 2013 Crystal Cabin Awards, with the winners to be announced at an official gala dinner to be held during Aircraft Interiors.
Finally, Thales is illustrating the partnerships drawn up with technology leaders in areas such as onboard retail sales, software for digital file transfers, streaming music applications, aircraft manufacturing and air-to-ground connectivity. Major ties have also been developed with seat manufacturers and, as such, Thales technology can also be viewed on the stands of B/E Aeropsace, Recaro and Zodiac Aerospace.
