Cooperation, a key factor

Jun 23. 2016

On the occasion of the 2016 EASA-FAA International Aviation Safety Conference which took place in Washington D.C. on June 14-16, 2016, representatives from the AeroSpace and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD)* participated in a range of panels and plenary discussions, stressing in particular the importance of partnerships between authorities and industry to address safety, international cooperation, global environmental certification standards, harmonisation of rules and performance-based oversight.

With an eye towards what the next decade will look like with the rapid advances in electronics technologies, it was important to consider how industry and the authorities can work together to ensure that the regulatory process isn’t an impediment to this modernization.

Eric Parelon, Airworthiness Certification Vice President at Thales, highlighted the importance of working in close partnership with Authorities upfront in order to be ready to introduce innovations and new technologies in a safely manner and at the right time.

*The AeroSpace and Defence Industries Association of Europe represents the Aeronautics, Space, Security and Defence industries in Europe. Based in Brussels, the organisation’s membership today comprises 14 major European aerospace and defence companies and 26 member associations in 19 countries.
