The first A330 MRTT for the France Air Force has made its maiden flight in Getafe, near Madrid. Flight testing of the Multi Role Tanker Transport can now commence, with the official handover of this first aircraft scheduled for the spring of 2018.
The new tanker aircraft, which will be known in French service as Phénix, is the first of nine ordered by the French defence procurement agency (DGA). Thales is a first-tier partner of Airbus Defence and Space (ADS) for this version of the A330, with responsibility for military avionics in particular.
