Foundation stone of new Thales campus laid in Bordeaux

Apr 15. 2015

On April 10th, the foundation stone of the new Thales facility being built in Bordeaux, south-western France, was laid in the presence of Thales CEO Patrice Caine and a number of regional dignitaries. The event was a symbolic milestone as part of Thales’s plans to make the site a showcase for its aeronautical activities.

“Today’s event is the culmination of Thales’s 40-year presence in the Aquitaine region and demonstrated our desire to continue investing in France,” underlined Patrice Caine. Thales has developed world-class capabilities in the region, in the fields of cockpit systems, mission computers, airborne radars, UAV systems, and innovative customer support and service offerings.

He added: “Our facilities here have risen to some of the most prominent civil and military aerospace challenges of recent years. From standalone instruments to full-scale cockpits, we’re on board all Airbus aircraft, and for several decades now all French air force pilots have used our radars. Our skills and know-how have developed in line with technologies and processes to keep us at the forefront of the worldwide industry. We have achieved this by constantly evolving and by listening carefully to our customers.”

This quest for excellence has resulted in the laying of the foundation stone of a facility which aims to become a benchmark throughout the aerospace and defence sector. The ultra-modern, eco-friendly site will provide a high-quality 55,000m² working environment for more than 2,000 Group employees.

“Thales Bordeaux’s new industrial campus illustrates how we aim to branch out to our partners throughout the sector and demonstrates the interest of working together as part of a dynamic, competitive and effective ecosystem,” Patrice Caine also explained. The site will be focused on the design, development and production of leading-edge technologies for the aerospace sector, and will include a 1,000m² Innovation Hub where tomorrow’s concepts and techniques will take shape.

The various buildings will be erected before the end of 2015, and employees will move to the site during the last quarter of 2016, ahead of the official inauguration, scheduled for early 2017.
